IMPORTANT: Due to the rainy season and required maintenance, the Inca Trail is not operational during the month of February. There are a limited number of Inca Trail permits issued on any given day. It is strongly recommended travellers book their permits as far in advance as possible to secure their space. To purchase permits, photocopies of passports are required along with full payment. Name changes cannot be accommodated and Inca Trail permits are fully non-refundable for any reason.

Day 2
BreakfastLIMA Breakfast. Lima was founded in 1535 and was once the capital of Spain’s South American Empire for 300 years; it is also known as the City of Kings. Enjoy a private afternoon city tour featuring the Plaza Mayor, the Government Palace, the 17th-century Baroque Cathedral and Church of San Francisco and the Palacio de Torre Tagle, Lima’s most elegant colonial mansion. Also visit the Larco Herrera Museum.

Day 3
Breakfast / Lunch / DinnerLIMA – PUERTO MALDONADO After an early breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Puerto Maldonado, your gateway into the Peruvian Amazon. Upon arrival, take a 45-min board ride along the Madre de Dios River, finally arriving at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica lodge. After a short briefing, settle into your bungalow and enjoy lunch in the dining room. This afternoon, we suggest a guided walk along the eco-lodge’s trail system, an excellent introduction to the jungle environment.

Day 4
Breakfast / Lunch / DinnerPUERTO MALDONADO Enjoy breakfast. Choose from a variety of activities including the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway and Anaconda Walk to spot a variety of species of birds, mammals, amphibians and an abundance of flora and fauna. Glide in a wooden canoe across the mirror-like oxbow lake, home to red howler monkeys, black caiman and the endangered giant river otter. Once back at the lodge, enjoy the daily nature presentation in the Eco Center and dinner.

Breakfast PUERTO MALDONADO — CUZCO Breakfast. Take your 45-min return boat back to Puerto Maldonado to visit the Butterfly House showcasing the beauty and adaptability of these fascinating insects. Continue on to the airport to board your flight to Cuzco. Upon arrival, private transfer to your hotel.

Day 6
Breakfast / Lunch / DinnerCUZCO — INCA TRAIL (12KM) Early morning drive to the city of Urubamba. Continue on to the entrance of the Inca Trail; see the Vilcanota River and travel across a bridge to begin your hike. Arrive for lunch at Miskay for a short rest, then visit the Inca ruins of Patallacta with an historic guided tour. At around 5pm, arrive at Wayllabamba, nestled among high mountains and vegetation. Enjoy a drink, dinner and overnight in your tent.
Day 7
Breakfast / Lunch / DinnerINCA TRAIL (13km) Wake up early to begin a more difficult day of hiking. Journey slowly to observe different vegetation, medicinal plants, flowers and hummingbirds. After breakfast, begin your hike and arrive at Llulluchapampa to take pictures and for a short rest. The highest point of the trail is at Warmihuañuska where you will also rest. Enjoy lunch and a beverage then begin an easier hike toward the second campsite, Pacaymayo, by around 5pm. Enjoy hot drinks and biscuits, dinner and overnight.
Day 8
Breakfast / Lunch / DinnerINCA TRAIL (15km) Today, see four Inca ruins including Runkurakay, a possible military stop protecting access to Machu Picchu. See wonderful views of the beginning of the Amazon jungle with green vegetation and snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba Range and Pumasillo. Travel down towards the Inca Ruins of Sayacmarca to climb a long stairway for your guided tour and break at Chaquicocha, a dried lagoon near a large swamp. Proceed to Phuyupatamarca for more spectacular views of the ruins and the top of Machu Picchu mountain. Rest at Wiñaywayna campsite for special dinner buffet with wine. Utilize the lodge where you can have beverages, use toilets and take hot showers.
Day 9
BreakfastINCA TRAIL — MACHU PICCHU — CUZCO Early morning 2-hour hike towards Machu Picchu. First, arrive at Intipunco, the doorway of the sun, for pictures of the famous Inca city. See the glorious sunrise, then enter the magical ruins of Machu Picchu for exploration. Board the Vistadome Train to Cuzco.

Day 10
BreakfastCUZCO – LIMA Breakfast. Begin exploration of the Imperial City with a visit to one of the most impressive buildings of Incan Cusco, the Golden Temple of Korikancha. This temple was dedicated to the worship of the Sun God whose interior walls were said to have been covered in gold. See the Main Square and nearby ruins of Tambomachay, Kenko, Puca-Pucara and finally the colossal fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Continue on to the airport to board your flight to Lima and your connecting flight home.
