AQUA EXPEDITIONS: NERA AMAZON CRUISER
IQUITOS – NAUTA
Arrive on a noon flight and receive a warm welcome at Iquitos International Airport by the Nera Amazon crew. Board a private transfer to downtown Iquitos for a panoramic city tour and welcome lunch. Then continue to Nauta port for embarkation. Settle into a generously sized suite and begin one of life’s greatest adventures. After an introduction to the naturalist guides and a routine safety drill, gather at the restaurant for the first of many Amazonian cuisine experiences, created by Aqua Nera’s renowned consulting chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.
AMAZONAS RIVER – TAHUAYO RIVER
Head out at sunrise for a birdwatching session along the Amazon River. After breakfast, embark on a skiff excursion from the Amazon to one of its tributaries, the Tahuayo River. Learn about the region from expert naturalist guides and try fishing for Amazonia’s notorious piranhas. As the sun sets, venture out for an evening wildlife excursion, followed by a stargazing session.
CLAVERO LAKE – UCAYALI RIVER
Discover the magnificent black waters of Clavero Lake and visit the riverside communities that call its banks home. Enjoy kayaking, canoeing, or swimming before returning on board for a sumptuous lunch. In the afternoon, take a short jungle walk in the San José de Paranapura forest to view the famous giant water lilies. Before dinner, meet the dedicated crew working behind the scenes to ensure an exceptional experience aboard Aqua Nera. After dinner, enjoy a leisurely walk through the floodplain forest of San José de Paranapura.
NAUTA TOWN – MANATEE RESCUE CENTRE – HOME
In the morning, take a guided visit to the local market to marvel at the regional produce of the Peruvian Amazon and sample exotic snacks if desired. For those interested, there is also an opportunity to visit an experienced beekeeper in the community of San Francisco. Return to Aqua Nera for breakfast and to pack. Before departure, visit the Manatee Rescue Centre, a sanctuary where orphaned Amazonian manatees are rehabilitated before being released back into the wild. Board your departing flight.
