The Pantanal is an enormous swampland in Brazil which is seasonally flooded by the Paraguay River when its tributaries burst their banks. The area is a wonderland of unusual wildlife including storks, toucans, giant anteaters and possibly jaguars. A birdwatcher’s paradise and fisherman’s dream, the Pousada do Rio Mutum has 22 charming rooms situated among endless flora and fauna. Many activities for guests include canoeing, safaris and excursions by Jeep. For those seeking relaxation, take a nap in one of their hammocks nestled under mango trees.
